Simple by design

PDF to Text in three steps

FileGizmo extracts a PDF’s selectable text into a plain UTF-8 TXT file entirely in your browser. Use it to make document text easier to search, quote, review in notes, feed into an accessibility workflow, or prepare for downstream analysis. Choose a PDF, select Extract text, then review the on-page preview, copy it, or download the text file. Clear page headings separate content from each source page.

This tool reads the document’s existing text layer; it does not upload the PDF and does not claim to reproduce the visual layout. Columns, tables, forms, and precise spacing may become ordinary reading-order text. Image-only scans need optical character recognition and will return little or no content unless an OCR layer is already embedded. PDF parsing runs inside a dedicated browser worker so the interface remains responsive while pages are read. For sensitive documents, the no-upload design removes the usual server-transfer step, but you should still inspect the extracted text for reading-order errors before relying on it in a formal or automated process.

Frequently asked questions

Will the output preserve the PDF layout?

No. This tool extracts reading text into plain text and does not recreate columns, tables, or Word formatting.

Can it read a scanned PDF?

Not unless the scan already contains an OCR text layer. Image-only scans require OCR, which this tool does not claim to perform.

How are pages separated?

The text file includes a clear page heading between each extracted page.

Is PDF text sent to a server?

No. PDF parsing and text extraction run inside a local browser worker.
