For legal work
Handle routine legal PDFs without creating another file copy.
Assemble exhibits, read scanned records, add signatures, and password-protect a delivery copy in one browser-only workspace. FileGizmo has no account, matter list, or remote document queue.
Your source files stay on this device. FileGizmo receives neither the document nor its extracted text.

A careful legal-document workflow
- Work from a duplicate, then confirm the client name, matter, and intended recipient before editing.
- Run OCR only when a scan has no usable text layer. Treat recognized text as a draft and compare names, dates, citations, and monetary figures against the page image.
- Organize or merge the reviewed pages, add a signature only with proper authority, and inspect the finished PDF before delivery.
- Protect the delivery copy when appropriate, then send the password through a separate agreed channel.
Professional boundary
What the tools do not decide for you
- FileGizmo is document software, not legal advice, a records-management system, or a substitute for your firm’s retention and approval controls.
- A visible black rectangle is not secure redaction. Remove confidential content with a verified redaction workflow, then test the exported file before disclosure.
- OCR can misread low-resolution scans and unusual formatting. Never rely on it as the sole copy of evidence or filing text.
Clear answers
Questions before you begin
Does FileGizmo upload legal documents?
No. Ordinary file tools process the selected document in your browser. The normal tool policy blocks connections to third-party origins, and FileGizmo has no conversion server or remote file queue.
Can I use OCR output without checking it?
No. OCR is an aid for search and drafting. Compare names, dates, citations, amounts, and quoted language with the scan before using the text in legal work.
Does the PDF editor permanently redact text?
No. The editor labels opaque rectangles as covers because the underlying content may remain. Use a verified redaction process and test copy, search, extraction, layers, and metadata before disclosure.
Where is crash-recovery data stored?
Supported editors save edit state in origin-scoped browser storage on this device, not on a FileGizmo server. It expires after seven days and can be cleared from the editor.
